Weekend Rapids, Arsenal, Derby Roundup

Now that the #USMNT has finished its run in the World Cup, we can go back to focusing on club football again. There’s a lot to be said for international football, but let’s face facts: most of the sport these days is played on the club level. It’s a mishmash of nationalities, attacking styles and personalities. It’s hugely fun – unless you’re watching RSL. Yep, that’s only the first of many RSL digs coming today. The next one includes a dig at Robbie Findley. CLUB FOOTBALL!

The Rapids played to a 2-2 draw with the Dynamo in Houston after the two-week layoff for the WC group stage. Goal from Conor Casey (CaseyWatch®: that’s TWO goals from the run of play!) and an own goal before equalized by Houston. Next up is a game on the 4th of July against the NYRB (who could be making a huge player announcement this week).

On the Arsenal front, could these be the new home shirts, leaked to the public? Time will only tell, but I like them. White sleeves with a solid color on the front, white collar. In other news, Van Persie is still going, helping the Netherlands kick some major butt (The Netherlands-Brazil tie in the quarterfinals would make for a compelling final, let alone quarterfinal matchup).

Derby’s Buxton is going under the knife for a groin operation and will reportedly miss 4-6 weeks. There’s also been a switch in the Derby-Nottingham Forest Derby from Dec. 28 to Dec. 29. Read more details here.
